Our Personal Narratives

These are the stories that the students told as part of oral storytelling.  This activity helps students get ready to write personal narratives about their own lives.

A made-up story

There was a storm and there was a ninja that got struck by lightning and there were butterflies.  Then there was rain, and the rain flooded the land, and the clouds covered the sun.

A real story

When I was trying to open my yogurt it didn’t work, so I squeezed it next to a kid and it sprayed on him.  There was dots all over.  Everywhere – even his shirt!

Ellie

A made-up story

Once there was a floating marshmallow and there were these tiny people.  They weren’t actually people, they were fairies.  They got on the marshmallow and it floated up to the clouds.  They got off.  The clouds were cotton candy and there was candy hanging everywhere.  Then the fairies ate all the candy.  When they ate it, more candy grew.  Even if you ate tons of candy you would never get sick.

A made-up story

This is the story I wrote about.  It’s racecars, airplanes, and lasers.  After that it’s a little song that solves the mysteries.  Cyborg says “Who’s the richest person you know?”  Scrooge McDuff.  They sing a song.  They figured out how to fly.  And then the last part is the most funniest part.  The boys run away in a trash can, and they eat garbage.  Then a banana goes like this and then they are in the garbage can and there is a garbage guy.  He is selling food and they don’t even care because they have to eat ants.  That’s the end of my story.

One day my mom went to the store and she saw a pretty dress and she went to the dressing room and tried it on and she took off her hat.  When she was done she left her hat on the table.  Then she went to a different store and remembered that she forgot her hat. She went back to the store, and me and my sister laughed a little bit.

Once upon a time I was in the zoo.  And I was playing with the animals.  And the animals could understand me.  It was one of my powers.  I could control the wind.

Once upon a time -- it was either after school or on summer vacation -- I went with my gram to the nail salon and I got my nails done my favorite color – pink.  And we went home.  And my grandma has a red car.

Once upon a time I was getting ready for Chuck E. cheese.  Then I saw my Auntie Kamoya. And then I played games and I won tickets. And then I did a Chuck E. dance. And we got cake and ice cream.  It was my birthday.

Once upon a time I was eating pancakes and then I was jumping on the trampoline. And then it was night time and I woke up and I went to see my slippers and I found new slippers. And then when I was reading my book I was wearing my slippers in my bed.

A real story

Once puon a time I played at the park and I found the pink slide and then I slided on it and I went to bed.  My mom said we are going to grandpa’s house.

I was going in the car going to Castle Island and then we got out and then I started playing in the playground and then when we played in the playground I kind of was trying to jump to get to the monkey bars.  I got one.  And then we went on the tour in the castle and I touched a real cannon.  It was from a long time ago.

When I was in florida there was an alligator coming where my daddy was. Then my cousin said to her mom.  You have to be just like daddy because you’re gonn a be just like daddy b.c your’e going to get bald from the alligator.  And then when he [the alligator] came, the kid alligator came to his mom and then the mom left with the kid alligator.

Once upon a time we were going on a trip and I saw a bunch of cats.  There was a black and white one, and there there was a brown speckled one. We went on this trip and I didn’t really know where we were going. And I asked where we were going and they just said it’s right around the corner and we just went back home.

Once upon a time, when my little baby sister was born, I was really happy. And right now after school I’m going to see her again. She looks so cute because she’s just been borned. And then we are going to go home after that or go back to my grandma’s house.  If we go back to my grandma’s house I’m just going to do my homework and then play on the computer. And then at the nighttime I’m going to watch a lot of tv. I forgot that tomorrow we have no school.  And then I’ll watch so much TV.
