Want to learn more about maps?

This would be a great way to learn more about maps and get to talk to someone who makes them.

The Jamaica Plain Historical Society is pleased to sponsor this program highlighting the Boston neighborhood maps of Ed McCarthy. Ed McCarthy is an amateur Boston historian, who is also an EMT working at Boston EMS for 24 years. Ed gathers historical information and crafts it into comprehensive detailed maps that tell the history of Boston's neighborhoods in different time periods. As he works his way through Boston's communities, he has come across many obscure and little-known facts which he enjoys bringing to renewed public attention. Each map, or set of maps he produces represents hours upon hours of library research, and lots of shoe leather, as he spends time learning the neighborhood, finding the little-known corners and places, and speaking to its people. Come along to hear about Ed's process and see his work. Light refreshments will be served.
